Introduced for the first time, they quickly started to explore each other's presence. Tiki started to preen her little brother, and Frankie started to try to entice Tiki to feed him.

Thunder

Last night, Tiki and Laertes were awake most of the night, freightened by the loud thunderstorm outside.

It's really cute.

Bathing and Bathroom

Despite having had a few accidents on the carpet - all of which seemed to happen within an 1 hour period last night - she now seems very accustomed to her routine of pooping in the bath tub on command.

Every so often, while playing with her, Tiki will turn around and start to refuse commands to "step-up", and shaker her tail. Once put down in the bath tub, she hops around a little while, then suddenly she will make 3 backward hops, shake her tail, and poop.

And, she loves to shower. Tonight was her third shower since she came home. The first time was a little scary for her. She kept slipping on the wooden shower perch (suction cupped to the tile wall). But she didn't object too much about the water. She sat still and seemed mesmerized by the blow drier (low setting) as well. But by tonight, as soon as she heard the water coming out of the shower head, she was excited and flapping her wings in anticipation. While drying off, she even did turns while being blown by the drier.

Nightmare or Calling?

Tiki is starting to learn to chirp like a grown-up.

Interestingly enough, it was only that first evening a few nights ago, when she would chirp and imitate the phone. Since then, she no longer chirps when the phone rings.

Two nights ago, however, she started once in the middle of the night, with a large call (it sounded like an alarm). Perhaps she was dreaming of the phone ringing, or had a nightmare. Last night (May 10) she did this night call every hour or so, until about 3am.

She has not done so since.

Phone call

Tiki has been crying her baby cry ever since she came home. Fairly quiet, but it's an insitent cry that seems to indicate happiness and hunger and distress (depending on context). Then, this afternoon the phone rang, and she suddenly chirped out a real loud (adult) chirp - imitating the ringing phone! Sure enough, she did it again later, when the phone rang once more.

She's always had a tendency to poop when she flies and hits the ground upon landing. Not sure why, but she seems to like pooping on the ground. When she is put down in the bath tub, she will hop around, then wiggle her tail, and *squirt*!

Arrival of Tiki

Tiki came home from the Store on Thursday May 4. The previously ordered acrylic cage arrived from the "acrylic man" that night, but she stayed in her small carrier over night. Being totally adventurous and well-adjusted, she did not fuss or stress, but was right at home from the first moment. She probably could have been fine even if she was put in a new cage (though most suggest that a new bird stay in a carrier if brought home late in the day) - except the cage had to be put together first.

Friday was spent putting the cage together, adding toys and perches, and making her feel welcome.

Tiki is ready to come home

...But the cage is not. She will come home as soon as the cage arrives. A normal steel cage doesn't stop the Lory's wet poop, so many Lory keepers get acrylic cages. Tiki's is on order.
